I’m alive!

Wow – it’s been a while, huh? A bit has changed in the past few weeks… keeping me a bit more busy than normal. But I found a little lull in the middle of my day – so I thought I’d catch you up.

Job – Last October I left a job that had me so stressed out that I was losing my hair and crying on my way home from work every day. Well, sometimes God calls us to crazy things and I am back working that job. No – I’m not insane. The job is the same – but splitting it with someone else so I’m basically doing half of what I was doing before and have another person to help and bounce ideas off. I have survived three weeks and so far I’m really glad to be back. A bit more busy and tired – but overall, it’s been a good thing.

Garden – well, we’ve had some successes and some failures in our garden. Some things we’ve decided to plant more of (arugula) and some we have decided to start over on (sugar snap peas) and we’ve add some (zucchini and tomatoes) – but long story short – I’m still loving it. Not to get all sickeningly lovey dovey on you (sorry Katie – I hope I’m not as bad as Gimme Some Oven…) but I am really glad I married a guy who brought things into my life that I had never experienced before (gardening, composting, gymnastics, etc…)

Kitchen – I’ve been trying to figure out our new schedule since I’m back to the old job. I get home about an hour to an hour and a half later than I was before so the main thing this has impacted is my time to make meals… Quick yet delicious is the name of the game on weeknights now. Here are three recipes I’ve made lately that have fit the bill:

Sheet Pan Garlic Parmesan Chicken & Potatoes

Mexican Chicken, Sweet Potato and Black Bean Skillet

Easy Better-Than-Takeout Chicken Fried Rice

Social – We threw a surprise party for my good friend Kim this weekend and we now feel like we’ve officially broken in our house. We simply had a BBQ with grilled burgers and hot dogs and 35 (plus 15 kids) our Kim’s closest friends came to celebrate. We had yummy sides and desserts provided by the guests, competitive yard games outside, and solid conversation all night. It was one of the most fun evenings we’ve had at our house so far. We are already dreaming up a 4th of July party now that we know our house is a solid party house.

Activity – I was struggling to find time to be active with my new work schedule so last week I started the Couch to 5K program again. I’ve been waking up to work out before work and surprisingly (or not surprisingly if you know anything about the benefits of exercise) I’ve been less tired even though I’ve had a little less sleep. I’m writing all this not to say, “Look how awesome I am…” – because I’m not and a healthy lifestyle is a constant struggle for me – but so you can check up on me for a little accountability from someone other than my loving (nagging? JK…) husband. 😏 Also, we played pickleball for the first time last night at Chicken N Pickle and it’s one of my new favorite activities. If anyone wants to play – the Agees will be game!

That’s all for now… Just thought I’d write to update and let you all know I’m alive!
